Rot Repairs for Windows & Doors
Rot in sash windows should be addressed and repaired as soon as you discover it.
When the wood is left to rot in a sash window, it can start to cause all sorts of problems not only for the rest of the sash window and can lead to blowing of the interior plasterwork.
When your windowsill starts to rot, you should get the rotten section or the whole windowsill replaced. Sometimes lower portions of the sash box frame may also need replacing. It is common practice for decorators or a handyman to put filler on top of rotten wood to cover the damage. Unfortunately, the filler will only last for a short while before another repair is needed. Therefore, complete replacement of the windowsill and lower box frames is recommended.
